Artist Statement

My work seeks to explore and document my aging as a woman.  Pressured by a society and pop culture that are obsessed with both beauty and youth, I unpack my own beliefs about myself and my place in the world through my photography.  Exploring ideas and themes of motherhood, femininity, body image, traditional roles of women, female power, and the myriad of obstacles that older women face today, I attempt to find meaning and purpose in the second half of my life. Through this exploration, I also question my connection to nature, other women, and to the greater cosmos.

This work represents the first chapter of a ten-year project to document my existence and thoughts during middle age and menopause from ages 45 to 55.
